José Núñez, born in Tacuarembó, was the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th President (then called Supreme Director) of Nicaragua from 10 March 1834 to 23 April 1835, from 25 January 1837 to January 1838, from 13 March 1838 to 1838 and from 17 November 1838 to 23 April 1839, respectively. In between, his power was taken by José Zepeda, 2nd President, from 23 April 1835 until his death on 25 January 1837, and by Francisco Jiménez Rubio, 4th President, from January 1838 to 13 March 1838.
